One of my colleagues was interested in learning a new skill and wanted to know how I learned programming. It made me think about it since it was a long time ago, but my technique hasn’t changed much since I started. I told him that if there’s one thing to do to catch on with a new skill, it would be to surround yourself with it in all aspects of your daily life.
Let’s say you want to learn marketing, design, or a new programming language. Start by surrounding yourself with things related to it every day. Subscribe to YouTube channels, follow pages on Instagram, Facebook, or other social media where you spend your time, and buy books on the subject and keep them close by. Add a learning event even if it’s 20 minutes to your calendar or set a daily reminder on your phone.
We often forget that things matter in the long run as ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ฌ once said, “๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ฉ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ ๐ฐ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐ง ๐๐จ ๐ข๐ง ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ฒ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ ๐ฐ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐ง ๐๐จ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐๐ง ๐ฒ๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ.” Just remember that in years, if you’ve spent 200 hours learning or watching content about that skill, it’s better than doing nothing at all.
What’s your learning technique?
